windlemoor labradors

Our Labradors are first and foremost much-loved members of our family and working gundogs. They live, train and work here with us in the heart of Mid Wales.

I breed only occasional litters, with careful thought given to temperament, health, working ability and producing the kind of Labrador I love to live and work with.

This page is where you can meet my dogs, find out more about my approach to breeding and see details of any planned or future litters.

Fern - Windlemoor Honey

 Meet Fern – Windlemoor Honey

Fern is quite simply the sweetest-natured dog. She is incredibly clever, eager to please and wonderfully biddable and responsive, even when she’s hunting hard.

In the field, she is an exceptional worker and the best game finder I have ever had. She’s athletic, fit and naturally healthy, having never needed a vet visit for illness or injury, and she will work tirelessly on a shoot day before coming home and being just as happy curled up with us on the sofa.

That combination is exactly what I value in a Labrador: a talented, driven working dog who is also an easy, affectionate family companion.

Fern was also the most wonderful mother to her first litter. Motherhood seemed to come completely naturally to her; she chose to continue feeding, caring for and washing her puppies right up until they left for their new homes. The pups she produced are simply outstanding and I will do a repeat mating to Hawksgarth Hustle of Mynydddu in 2028.

Her temperament, working ability, health and maternal nature are exactly why I chose to breed from Fern and why I’m so proud to have her as part of the Windlemoor line.

Health Scores and Pedigree Chart - Fern

Fern has undergone comprehensive health testing prior to breeding, with excellent results.

Her BVA hip score is 0:0 and her elbow score is 0, meaning no radiographic evidence of hip or elbow dysplasia was identified on scoring.

Fern has also been DNA tested for a range of inherited conditions relevant to Labradors through Paw Print Genetics. She is clear (WT/WT) for all seven conditions tested:

Centronuclear Myopathy (CNM)

Exercise-Induced Collapse (EIC)

Hereditary Nasal Parakeratosis (HNPK)

Macular Corneal Dystrophy

Progressive Retinal Atrophy – Progressive Rod-Cone Degeneration (PRA-prcd)

Skeletal Dysplasia 2 (SD2)

Stargardt Disease

Overall: Hips 0:0 | Elbows 0 | DNA clear for all tested conditions

Ivy - Windlemoor Hafren

Meet Ivy – Windlemoor Hafren

Ivy is very much like her half-sister Fern, which isn’t surprising given how closely their pedigrees are related. She has the same sweet nature, biddability and eagerness to please, combined with a huge amount of natural working ability.

She absolutely loves to work and is another talented hunting machine. She has an exceptional natural ability for locating missing game, something that hasn’t been trained into her, but is simply instinctive. I no longer compete but Ivy's siblings are doing very well, 2 are now running in open level in Gundog competition with another 2 working as scent detection dogs.

What I particularly love about Ivy is her ability to switch on and off. She’s my go-to dog to take away with me or down to the pub because she’s calm, unfazed and takes everything in her stride. But ask her to work and that changes instantly, she switches on and gives everything to the job. Like Fern she is a very healthy dog with no trips to the vets so far!

For me, that’s such an important quality in a Labrador: a dog with real drive and natural ability in the field, but an easy, settled temperament away from work.

This will be Ivy’s first litter, and I’m really excited to see what she produces.

Health Scores and pedigree chart - IVY

Ivy has undergone comprehensive health testing prior to breeding, with very good results.

Her BVA/KC hip score is 6:6 and her elbow score is 0. Her most recent BVA/KC/ISDS eye examination was unaffected.

Ivy has also been DNA tested through Paw Print Genetics and is clear (WT/WT) for all seven conditions tested:

Centronuclear Myopathy (CNM)

Exercise-Induced Collapse (EIC)

Hereditary Nasal Parakeratosis (HNPK)

Macular Corneal Dystrophy

Progressive Retinal Atrophy – Progressive Rod-Cone Degeneration (PRA-prcd)

Skeletal Dysplasia 2 (SD2)

Stargardt Disease

Overall: Hips 6:6 | Elbows 0 | Eyes unaffected | DNA clear for all seven conditions tested

planned litters

Windlemoor Hafren (IVY) to FTCH Arcklebear caribou

We are very excited to be planning Ivy’s first litter for spring 2027.

Ivy is a homebred daughter of our Grace and Harry and is very much the type of Labrador we want to continue breeding. She is a lovely, biddable bitch with a kind temperament, plenty of natural working ability and a real willingness to work with her handler. She is part of our picking-up team and has been brought up, trained and worked here at Completely Gundogs.

Ted is a Field Trial Champion with an impressive working pedigree, but it was important to us that the choice of stud was about much more than titles alone. We wanted a dog that we felt would complement Ivy and hopefully produce the sort of Labradors we value, sound, capable working dogs with good temperaments, natural ability and a desire to work in partnership with their handler.

Both Ivy and Ted have undergone health testing, with their results shown alongside the planned pedigree here. As with all our litters, these puppies will be bred primarily with working and active homes in mind. We would expect them to have plenty of working potential and to suit people looking for a Labrador to train, work, compete with or simply enjoy as an active, well-trained companion.

The mating is currently planned for March 2027, subject of course to Ivy’s season and everything being right for her at the time.

Repeat Mating Fern + Beau Planned 2028

Windlemoor Honey (Fern) × FTW Hawksgarth Hustle of Mynydddu (Beau)

Following our first litter from Fern and Beau, we are planning to repeat this mating in spring 2028.

We were delighted with what this combination produced. The puppies have developed into lovely, confident young dogs with plenty of natural working ability, while retaining the temperament and trainability that are so important to us.

Fern is a daughter of Grace and FTCH Tanyrhallt Blue Bloods and is a kind, biddable bitch with a lovely temperament. She works regularly picking-up and is a dog I thoroughly enjoy both living with and working.

Beau is FTW Hawksgarth Hustle of Mynydddu, from an exceptionally strong working pedigree with numerous Field Trial Champions behind him. He has excellent health results: hips 3/5, elbows 0/0, current clear eye test, and is DNA clear for PRA, CNM, EIC, SD2, STGD, MCD and HNPK.

Because we already know what this pairing has produced, repeating it feels like a very considered choice rather than simply choosing another stud. Our aim is again to produce healthy, capable working Labradors with good temperaments, natural ability and the potential to make excellent working, competition or active homes.

The mating is provisionally planned for spring 2028. Expressions of interest for the waiting list are welcome.

We are now happy to take expressions of interest for these litters. If you would like to be considered for a puppy, please get in touch and tell us a little about yourself, your experience with gundogs and the sort of home and life you could offer one of our puppies.

WhAT OTHERS HAVE TO SAY

When I got my first ever gundog three years ago, a working cocker, I really didn't know where to start. Luckily I decided to start my training with Collette and immediately felt at ease with her kind and patient ways. As Monty matured he presented me with challenges that made me want to give up at times, but with Collette's experience and help she saw me through it and helped me become a happy and confident handler. As time progressed Lou joined Collette's team as a trainer and nowadays I train with both and have the best of both worlds. I have become a regular attendee on the training holidays at Collette's stunning new location in Wales and always look forward to the trips with great excitement. I consider both Collette and Lou not just as great trainers but also as good friends and thanks to them I have managed to get Monty to a level where I can enjoy working him on pheasant shoots and take him out rough shooting which was always my dream. Thank you ladies, you’ve got a client for life here!

I have nothing but praise for Collette's teaching. My ESS is a sensitive soul and easily switches off. Using lots of force free techniques and suggestions from Collette we have made great progress in the last year. My dog is now engaged, happy and confident and if we carry on as we are, I am sure, thanks to Collette, Speckle will be a great asset in the shooting field next season.

I have been on several gundog courses run by Collette after going to a traditional gundog trainer who made me feel very useless. Collette has been unfailingly supportive and enthusiastic about my efforts and, despite having a sensitive and rather too keen dog, we have, under her guidance, made huge improvements. Without her careful, thoughtful and considered instruction I certainly would have given up. I thoroughly recommend her.

I discovered Collette when my working Lab was about two years old and I was looking for an activity that she would enjoy. We found so much more. Working with Collette and her team has shown me how to train my dog to a level I didn’t know was possible. Along the way, she’s become an even more delightful dog to live with, she’s happier because I’ve learnt how to use her working traits, our bond has deepened amazingly and I have a new obsession with training! Collette only trains using positive reinforcement / force free methods. As a qualified psychologist, I know the science behind learning backs this up. The team are completely open to learning from other training perspectives and encompass the wealth of skill and knowledge across the spectrum of training styles, often adapting ideas from across the gundog training world. You will find a warm welcome whatever your background. Training is structured around The Gundog Club grading scheme which gives nerds like me targets to aim for and many clients shoot with their dogs. Collette’s competing experiences are encouraging some of us to enter working tests. You’ve probably guessed I’m a fan by now! Highly recommended.

Collette and the team are simply fantastic. They give real insight into the dogs behaviour and teach simple, effective and lasting techniques to allow you to train your dog to the highest standard. I was amazed how quickly Duke, my 2 year old lab, responded and understood. The stress free methods meant he loved every step of his training and he now has merit passes at Grades 1 & 2. Thanks Collette 🐾👍🏻.

I have been training with Collette for nearly two years now and have found the support on offer to be second to none. She uses science-based, positive/ reward-based methods to teach everything from a reliable recall to steadiness, heel work and retrieving. Having come to Collette with a few 'issues', I was impressed with her incredible ability to come up with lots of different ways to train a skill. She is also an incredibly patient teacher! This has meant that even when we were struggling with the stop whistle, heel work or delivery, Collette has always helped us to find a solution. The online teaching capabilities and monthly membership mean that even though I am based in Kent, we can still train, albeit virtually, with Collette and other Completely Gundogs members on a weekly basis.
